Callander
March 2025
Callander is a solid town. While often referred to as one of the “Gateways to the Highlands”, Dunkeld will always be my favourite. Still, it was a good excuse to head somewhere i haven’t visited since 2023. I got there via Stirling, the road winding its way from the (Sad Eyed Lady of the) Lowlands into proper hill country. The plan was to check out Bracklinn Falls, then wander through the woodland to the north, obsessively looking for red squirrels and mushrooms. I heard one and saw pine cone drop, but never saw it with my eyeballs.
The weather was well brown, proper sunshine. Unsurprisingly, the place was rammed with cyclists and slow walkers. The river was looking decent, and plenty of people were making the most of it. Despite the crowds, it was a lovely day out. Nothing beats a sunny wander in the hills.
